Decoration of the 18th century

Zuppiera / Tureen

Ferniani manufacture

Second half 18thcentury

Majolica, cm 24 x 34 x 24

The enchanting and imaginary oriental world offered to the Ferniani manufacture, always watchful about the latest trends, a rich decorative contest to interpret in an occidental way. The lively fashion of the chinoiserie inspired one of the most popular motif of the majolica in Faenza: the “garofano” (carnation). It was inspired by the Chinese flower and quoted in the archives as “new porcelain”. The oval tureen decoration suggests an imaginary Chinese garden characterized by an unreal flower blooming in a flowered blue meadow.
