First half 17th century
cm 5.4 x Ø 33.3
This dish is part of the 17th century successful decorative series commonly called “harlequins”.
Being inspired by the popular characters of the “commedia dell’arte” the Montelupo potters created a decorative genre with a free humoristic spirit, thanks to the quick and natural way of painting characterized by rich and lively colours. On a light yellow background a clear caricature is painted: a man carrying an halberd on his shoulder and a little sword tied on his side, wearing a characteristic uniform.
