Deruta

Second half of 15th century

Majolica

cm 24 x 23.5

During the 15th century the ceramics manufacture in Deruta had a great commercial success due to its high quality standards and prosperous production. This pharmacy jar with two handles is decorated on one side with the inscription of the name "MIDFIA.BELLA" inside a scroll and on the opposite side with an emblem characterized by two pointed leaves. The body is painted with elegant vegetal patterns in Moorish style. This kind of jars characterized by handles in the shape of ribbons or twines were popular in the rich Deruta production at the end of the Gothic epoch. Today they are part of many important private and public collections.
